Jusoor celebrates the delivery of the Mobile Mammography Unit for breast cancer screening in the governorates of North and South Al Batinah
Jusoor Foundation celebrated the delivery of the Mobile Mammography Unit project for breast cancer screening in the governorates of North and South Al Batinah, under the patronage of H.E. Shaik Mohammed bin Sulaiman bin Hamoud Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah and Jusoor Chairman and with the presence of HE Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, the Governor of North Al Batinah, and representatives from government and private entities in the governorates.
The guest of honour and attendees toured the Mobile Mammography Unit to get to know its components, medical devices, mammograms, and supporting equipments for early breast cancer screening; in addition to the other facilities provided in the project.
Dr. Khalid bin Said Al Saadi, Director General of Health Services in North Al Batinah, said that the project is of great importance in providing a free of charge early screening service for breast cancer in the governorates of North and South Al Batinah. It uses the latest technologies in screening including the mammogram, which detects if there is breast cancer before its signs and symptoms appear, in addition to the fact that the project’s mobile vehicle will roam the governorates’ wilayats according to a timetable to provide free examination and spread awareness about this disease. Indeed, the mobile unit will increase the chances of women to attend in their wilayats and benefit from one of the services provided by the medical staff specialized in this area.
Jaber bin Sulaiman Al Busaidi, Executive Manager of Jusoor Foundation, highlighted that the Mobile Mammography Unit project is funded by OQ, Sohar Aluminium and Vale Oman with an investment of RO 250,000. Al Busaidi added that the project will be operated and managed through the Omani Cancer Association, saying “The project is about designing and equipping a mobile vehicle that consists of mammogram section, reception, registration and waiting section; in addition to providing an escort vehicle for the administrative and medical team accompanying the basic project (the mobile unit for breast cancer screening) so that the project provides a free examination service for the targeted women in the two governorates.”
Dr. Wahid bin Ali AL Kharusi, President of the Omani Cancer Association, stressed on the importance of this project and the goals it achieves, including early detection of breast cancer, conducting periodic examinations for women in the various wilayats of North and South Al Batinah Governorates, and spreading awareness in the community about breast cancer, in addition to enhancing primary prevention against breast cancer, and reducing waiting time for appointments in the reference hospitals for this type of examination.
